Crew Messaging

Send real-time messages between your control crew — controllers, operators, and moderators — without leaving the event. Coordinate cues, flag issues, and keep everyone in sync backstage.

Plan requirement

Crew Messaging is available on Basic, Premium, and Enterprise plans.

Common uses

  • Coordinate timing cues between the controller and operator
  • Alert the moderator about a late speaker
  • Send a private note to a specific crew member
  • Broadcast an announcement to the entire crew

Who Can Send Messages?

Only connections with a control role can participate in crew messaging:

Sending Messages

Broadcast Messages

Send a message to an entire role group or to all crew members at once:

  • All Crew — every connected controller, operator, and moderator receives the message
  • Controller — only master controller connections receive it
  • Operator — only operator connections receive it
  • Moderator — only moderator connections receive it

Select the recipient group from the dropdown at the top of the message panel before typing your message.

Private Messages

Send a message directly to a specific crew member. Private messages are visible only to you and the recipient — no one else in the crew can see them.

To send a private message:

  1. Open the Crew Directory in the message panel
  2. Tap the crew member you want to message
  3. Type your message and send

You can also reply privately to any message by tapping the reply button on a received message.

Private messages appear with a purple indicator to distinguish them from broadcast messages.

Notifications

Unread Badge

When you receive a new crew message while the panel is closed, an unread count badge appears on the crew messaging button. Open the panel to clear it.

New messages trigger a brief notification banner at the top of the screen showing the sender and a preview of the message. The banner auto-dismisses after 5 seconds, or you can tap it to open the full message panel.

Message Limits

  • Maximum message length: 500 characters
  • Messages are stored for the duration of the event session
  • Up to 100 messages are kept in memory for late-joining crew members
  • Messages persist to the database and are available when crew members reconnect

Clearing Messages

The Master Controller can clear all crew messages at once using the delete button in the message panel header. This removes all messages for every crew member in the event. A confirmation dialog prevents accidental deletion.

Operators and moderators cannot delete messages.

Tips

  • Keep messages short and actionable — your crew is busy running the show
  • Use private messages for sensitive information (speaker delays, technical issues)
  • The crew directory shows all currently connected crew members and their roles
  • Messages sync instantly across all devices — if you have multiple controller windows open, they all stay in sync
