Keyboard Shortcuts

Speed up your workflow during live events by controlling timers and visual effects with a single keypress — no need to reach for the mouse.

Shortcuts work only on the Controller page in a desktop browser. They are automatically disabled while you are typing in a text field, search box, or any open dialog or dropdown — so you can never accidentally trigger one while writing a message.

Default Shortcuts

These shortcuts are available out of the box. You can remap any of them to different keys.

Tip

You can also bind a hotkey to any saved macro from the Macros panel — fire a multi-step cue (timer + lights + Slack ping + recording) with a single keystroke. See Macros → Triggers → Hotkey for the full setup.

KeyActionDescription
Reset / PreviousIf the timer is running, reset it back to the full duration. If the timer is already stopped, go to the previous session.
Next SessionMove to the next session in your schedule.
SpacePlay / PauseStart the current timer, or pause it if it’s already running.
BBlackoutInstantly blank all connected screens. Press again to bring them back. Use this during breaks, transitions, or when you need to hide the display temporarily.
PPanic BlackoutEmergency blank — immediately blacks out every screen and every connected device. Unlike regular blackout, this also affects controllers and audience pages. Use in emergencies when you need everything off instantly.
OOn-AirToggle a red “LIVE” badge on all screens to let everyone know the event is being recorded or streamed. Press again to turn it off.
FFlashFlash all screens three times with a bright white pulse. Use this to visually grab the speaker’s attention when they’re not looking at their timer — for example, when their time is nearly up.
DDiscoTrigger a fun celebration effect with colorful flashing lights on all screens. Great for award announcements, session wrap-ups, or energizing the audience.

How to Customize

You can remap any shortcut to a different key. Custom shortcuts sync across all your devices when you're signed in.

  1. Open the Controller and click the Event dropdown in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Shortcuts from the menu.
  3. Click any key badge to enter remap mode — the badge will pulse blue to show it's waiting for your input.
  4. Press the new key you want to assign. The badge updates immediately.
  5. Click Save to keep your changes, or Cancel to discard them.
Tip

Click "Reset to defaults" to revert all shortcuts back to the original keys. This is also a pending change — you still need to click Save to confirm the reset.

Unsafe Keys

These keys can be assigned but may not work reliably because your browser or operating system may intercept them before they reach Tevyr.

KeyWhy it's unreliable
TabThe browser uses Tab to move focus between elements on the page
F1Opens the browser’s built-in help page in most browsers
F5Refreshes the page — which would reset your controller view
F11Toggles the browser in and out of fullscreen mode
F12Opens developer tools in most browsers
F2–F10Various browser and operating system functions may intercept these keys
BackspaceSome browsers navigate back to the previous page when Backspace is pressed
CapsLockReports inconsistent key values across different browsers
PrintScreenThe operating system captures this key before the browser ever sees it

Disallowed Keys

These keys are blocked and cannot be assigned as shortcuts. They either serve a critical function in the shortcut editor or don't make sense as standalone shortcuts.

KeyReason
EscapeReserved for cancelling remap mode in the shortcuts editor — pressing Escape exits without saving
ShiftThis is a modifier key (used in combinations like Shift+A) and cannot function as a standalone shortcut
ControlModifier key only — used for combinations like Ctrl+C
AltModifier key only — used for combinations like Alt+Tab
Meta / CmdModifier key only — used for combinations like Cmd+V on Mac

Important Notes

  • Browser shortcuts are safe. Keyboard combinations like Ctrl+C, Cmd+V, or Alt+Tab will never trigger an Tevyr shortcut. Only plain, single key presses fire shortcuts — your browser and system shortcuts work normally.
  • One key per action. Each key can only be assigned to one action at a time. If the key you choose is already in use, the editor will show a conflict warning and reject the assignment.
  • Automatically disabled when typing. Shortcuts pause whenever a modal, dialog, or dropdown is open, or when your cursor is in any text field. You can type messages, edit sessions, and search without worrying about accidentally triggering an effect.
  • Synced across devices. When you're signed in, your custom shortcut mappings are saved to your account and automatically sync across every browser and device where you log in.
  • Not signed in? The default shortcuts still work, but any custom remappings you make will only last for the current browser session and won't carry over to other devices.
