Effects
Effects are visual actions you can trigger on your screens during an event — blank all displays, flash to get the speaker's attention, show a "LIVE" badge, signal readiness with color lights, or celebrate with disco lights. Every effect syncs across all connected screens instantly.
Screen Effects
These effects can be triggered per screen — you choose which screens (Speaker, Audience, Staff) are affected, or trigger them on all screens at once.
Blackout
Blackout instantly blanks your presentation screens with a single click. The timer and all content disappear, replaced by a solid color, a custom image, or just the current time of day — depending on your settings.
When to use it:
- During breaks — blank the screen or show a "We'll be right back" image
- Before the event starts — hide the timer until you're ready to begin
- During speaker transitions — avoid showing a reset timer between sessions
- To show sponsor logos — display a sponsor image during blackout
Blackout display options:
| Display type | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Solid color | A plain color fill (default: black). Simple and clean. |
| Custom image | Display a branded image — a “We’ll be right back” slide, sponsor logo, or event graphic. |
| Background only | Use your normal background but hide all timer content. |
You can also choose to keep the time of day visible during blackout — helpful so attendees know when the break ends. These display options are configured per link in Link Options.
Blackout persists until you manually toggle it off. It will stay active even if new screens connect — they will also see the blackout state.
Flash
Flash pulses screens three times with a bright white flash over approximately 4 seconds, then auto-stops. It's a visual attention-grabber — like tapping the speaker on the shoulder without physically going on stage.
When to use it:
- The speaker isn't watching their timer and time is running out
- You need to get the speaker's attention for any reason
- A visual cue for backstage crew — like a "standby" signal
Flash is intentionally brief and non-disruptive. The audience will barely notice it, but the speaker — who's looking right at their confidence monitor — will see it immediately.
On-Air
On-Air displays a red "LIVE" badge with a pulsing dot on connected screens. It tells everyone — the speaker, crew, and audience — that the event is being recorded or live-streamed.
When to use it:
- When a live stream or recording starts — toggle On-Air so speakers know they're live
- To remind speakers not to share confidential content while cameras are rolling
- As a visual indicator for your production crew
Press the On-Air button again to turn it off when recording or streaming ends.
Focus Mode
Focus Mode hides the timer and progress bar on selected screens, enlarging whatever else is displayed (messages, questions, upcoming sessions). This gives the content more visual space.
When to use it:
- During Q&A segments where the countdown is irrelevant
- When showing a message that needs the speaker's full attention
- When displaying notes or upcoming session info without timer distraction
Per-Screen Controls
Each of these four effects (Blackout, Flash, On-Air, Focus) has individual buttons for Speaker, Audience, and Staff screens, plus a Stop All button that clears the effect from all screens at once.
| Effect | Persistence | Auto-stop |
|---|---|---|
| Blackout | Stays until manually toggled off | No |
| Flash | Ephemeral | Yes — auto-stops after 4 seconds |
| On-Air | Stays until manually toggled off | No |
| Focus | Stays until manually toggled off | No |
Emergency Effects
These effects are global — they affect every connected screen and device, including controllers and audience pages. They cannot be targeted to individual screens.
Panic Blackout
Panic Blackout is the emergency button. It immediately blacks out every screen and every connected device — including controllers and audience pages. Unlike regular blackout (which only affects presentation screens), panic blackout covers everything.
When to use it:
- A technical emergency — something wrong appears on screen that needs to be hidden immediately
- Sensitive content accidentally displayed — panic blackout gives you an instant kill switch
- Security or safety situations where all screens need to go dark
Panic blackout auto-clears after 30 seconds. This prevents a situation where someone accidentally triggers it and doesn't know how to restore the screens. If you still need screens blacked out after 30 seconds, use regular Blackout instead.
Disco
Disco triggers a fun celebration effect with rapid colorful flashing lights across all screens. It's purely for fun and energy.
When to use it:
- Award announcements and winner reveals
- Session wrap-ups and celebrations
- Energizing the audience before a keynote
- End-of-event celebrations
Disco also auto-clears after 30 seconds, or you can toggle it off manually.
Red Light
Red Light fills every connected screen with a solid red color. It's a simple, unmistakable visual signal — no text, no animation, just red.
When to use it:
- Signal "not ready" to the crew before a session begins
- Indicate a hold or delay to everyone in the venue
- As a visual stop signal during rehearsals
Press the Red Light button again to turn it off, or activate any other emergency effect to override it.
Green Light
Green Light fills every connected screen with a solid green color — the visual opposite of Red Light.
When to use it:
- Signal "go" or "ready" to speakers and crew
- Confirm that all systems are set and the event can proceed
- As a visual start signal during rehearsals or between sessions
Press the Green Light button again to turn it off.
All emergency effects are mutually exclusive — only one can be active at a time. Activating any emergency effect automatically deactivates the others. This prevents conflicting visual states on screen.
How to Trigger Effects
Effects can be triggered in two ways:
Effects Panel
Click the effect buttons in your controller's Effects tab. Each effect has dedicated buttons for each screen type with clear visual indicators showing which effects are currently active.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Use keyboard shortcuts for instant access during live events:
| Key | Effect |
|---|---|
| B | Toggle Blackout on all screens |
| F | Flash all screens |
| O | Toggle On-Air indicator on all screens |
| P | Panic Blackout — all connections |
| D | Toggle Disco — all connections |
